SCSC Seminar: AI in a Safety Workflow

AI in a Safety Workflow is a one-day seminar organised by the Safety-Critical Systems Club (SCSC) on 29 October 2026 at the Hilton London Euston. The SCSC is a UK community interest company for people working in system safety. The seminar is aimed at safety engineers and shows how to bring AI-based tools, methods and techniques into a development or maintenance workflow, with suitable safeguards and oversight.

About the event

Six practitioners talk about working with AI in safety-related settings. Topics include AI governance (TÜV SÜD), designing AI workflows for safety work (BMT), assessing AI-based automation (Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre), standards for AI-based tools in automotive safety (AUMOVIO) and AI-based monitoring of transit structures (Canetia Analytics). BTC Embedded Systems has one speaking slot in this programme.

BTC's talk: Trusted AI: How to Make AI-Generated Code, Tests and Requirements Fit for Safety-Critical Software Development

Leif Driebold, Portfolio Innovation Lead at BTC, speaks from 11:40 to 12:25 (UK time). AI can now write requirements, code and test cases in a fraction of the time engineers needed before. In safety-critical development the hard part is trust: standards such as ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC 61508 and EN 50128 expect evidence that is deterministic, reproducible and explainable, while AI output is probabilistic.

The talk shows how to close that gap. AI output is trusted only after independent, deterministic verification: formal requirement checks, formal verification, requirements-based testing, coverage analysis and traceability. AI takes over much of the manual preparation, and the deterministic checks decide the verdict. Attendees get a practical framework for using AI in development while keeping humans in control, evidence auditable and safety arguments intact.
